After 2 cups of strong coffee, we headed to VSEM (Economics &amp; Management College), opened our laptops and minds to fill in with new Knowledge.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000980;\">The Power of Power Query:<\/span> <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Daniel Zrust works as a Senior Digital Marketing Specialist for Avast and is responsible for the performance and optimization of over 10.000 of campaigns during his daily routine. <strong>Daniel showed us how to use Power Query, <\/strong>as well as to create, optimize and maintain large scale ppc accounts. It was a revelation! During the workshop, we learned how to <strong>create a reusable template campaign builder<\/strong> and save tons of hours in the future. Power Query is a free Microsoft Excel tool. It\u2019s main purpose is for business intelligence but we understood that it can be a very <strong>powerful PPC automation tool<\/strong> too!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7733\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mozaik.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/02.workshop.jpg\" alt=\"Marketing Festival 2017 workshops\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mozaik.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/02.workshop.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.mozaik.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/02.workshop-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000980;\"><strong>Supercharge Organic CTR:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Phil Pearce is a well-known expert in Analytics, SEO and technical optimization. <strong>Phil explained us about the entity wars between Google and Facebook<\/strong>, how these industry giants manipulate and keep data. Then he showed us how microdata and RDFa have died and why <strong>JSON-LD structured data is the only solution for better SEO Rankings<\/strong>. The workshop got too technical with examples of schema markups and implementation tactics. Well-known for his energy on stage, he presented us with some of <strong>the most common cultural misconceptions<\/strong> in the realm of digital marketing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The first misconception as he calls it is the fact that \u201cinvestments must be measurable\u201d. He presented the<strong> most significant marketing channels from those easiest to those hardest<\/strong> to measure and suggested to invest a percentage of the overall marketing budget to those hard-to-measure channels and use segments to monitor brand and traffic lifts to assess this investment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The second misconception he said is \u201cthat channels must be ROI &#8211; Positive\u201d. He stressed, we should <strong>focus more on long-term potential rather than immediate results<\/strong>, since some channels need some more time and effort to generate profits.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The third important misconception according to Fishkin is the fact that \u201csearch investments should be either SEO or PPC\u201d. As he demonstrated live on stage, currently <strong>there are 9 click-earning, non-traditional SERP features<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Knowledge panels<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Related questions<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Local packs<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Images<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Sitelinks<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Featured snippets<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Top stories<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Videos<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Tweets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">His suggestion is that we should take advantage of all the above opportunities for search visibility and incorporate various publishers in our search strategy including amazon, Facebook, reddit, YouTube and Bing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Finally, he mentioned that the top <strong>SEO priority for 2018 is to try and satisfy the searcher\u2019s query better than anyone else on page 1<\/strong> and ended the presentation by giving us a piece of advice:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>\u201cNext time you are making a strategic or tactical marketing strategy, ask yourself How (not if) is cultural conditioning biasing me?\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000980;\"><strong>Kim Goodwin: Right Research, Right Value<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>\u201cDo you want to know why people do what they do? Ask them! Not via survey but in person\u201d.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7737\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mozaik.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/04.speakers_Kim-Goodwin.jpg\" alt=\"kim-goodwin\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mozaik.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/04.speakers_Kim-Goodwin.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.mozaik.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/04.speakers_Kim-Goodwin-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Kim Goodwin, author of the best-seller \u201cDesigning for the Digital Age\u201d, has 22 years of experience in the field of interaction design and user research with leading teams. She now works as VP of Product &amp; User Experience at PatientsLikeMe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Below some notes from her talk on effective research:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><strong>Surveys are good for facts, but they are unusable in predicting behavior<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The surveys are based on the ability of people answering the questions, which can often be misleading. Indeed, there are <strong>other circumstances that affect decisions such as the self-image<\/strong> and invisible habits.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t outsource your research<\/strong>. It is like outsourcing your vacation.<\/li>\n<li>The best practice is to proceed with direct observation and real conversation. You can <strong>conduct interviews with asking for specific stories<\/strong>, for example. According to her, 6-20 interviews are enough to see patterns and to determine why they do what they do.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">She also concentrated on UX of a website. The core message was about the <strong>potential value propositions<\/strong>. Some key points:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Try to find customer\u2019s experience goals and define the values to help them to improve the journey.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Identify opportunities to \u201creduce pain\u201d in the customer experience<\/strong>. For example, in airlines, the customer\u2019s needs are to know about any Visa needed, weather, car rentals, meals, security etc. Airlines need to cover these and provide help.<\/li>\n<li>You need to influence decisions. <strong>\u201cA person like me\u201d is contextual<\/strong>. Customers like to share their needs with like-minded persons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000980;\"><strong>Joe Wade: We Must Scare Our Clients<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>\u201c<em>If your target audience loves it, it doesn\u2019t matter if most people hate it\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7741\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mozaik.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/05.speakers_JoeWade.jpg\" alt=\"joe wade\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mozaik.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/05.speakers_JoeWade.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.mozaik.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/05.speakers_JoeWade-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Another star of this Marketing Festival was Joe Wade, Co-Founder at the creative agency \u201cDon\u2019t Panic\u201d, <strong>responsible for some of the best viral advertising campaigns<\/strong>. He specializes on giving ideas about how to make an ad go viral. During his speech he showed us many good &amp; bad examples of ads like spots dedicated to child protection (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RBQ-IoHfimQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SaveTheChildren<\/a>) , the Nivea and Pepsi advertising fail and of course the <strong>awarded spot of an energy drink with a mascot<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ql7uY36-LwA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">puppymonkeybaby<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">While demonstrating these examples on stage, he recommended to marketers to act this way:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Drag clients out of their comfort zone and into creativity and <strong>urge them to take risks<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t worry if the broad audience doesn\u2019t like our ad, but <strong>worry about our target audience<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Affect the emotional side<\/strong> of the viewer. In ads, hearts persuade minds!<\/li>\n<li>Make adverts more artistic again with <strong>more storytelling<\/strong>, as stories are the oldest &amp; most innate viral content.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sharing is the most important metric<\/strong> because you can avoid additional promotion and budget. Unfortunately, 60% of branded content on Facebook isn\u2019t viewed or engaged with.<\/li>\n<li>Advertisers should think first online and then other mediums like TV. Not the other way round.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Last but not least, he dealt with another debated topic, which is <strong>blocking advertising on the Internet<\/strong>. He explained that marketers tend to focus on how to create more ads for additional channels, resulting in no more clicks or ad views, but more installing blocking systems.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000980;\"><strong>Avinash Kaushik: AI and Machine Learning &#8211; Implications on Business, Marketing &amp; Analytics<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7736\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mozaik.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/03.speakers_Avinash-Kaushik.jpg\" alt=\"avinash kaushik\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mozaik.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/03.speakers_Avinash-Kaushik.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.mozaik.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/03.speakers_Avinash-Kaushik-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Avinash was the super-star of the festival<\/strong> and as always, a mindblower for the upcoming digital era. As he mentioned, we must <strong>target users based on their intent to do or buy something<\/strong>. So, every media channel has a clear purpose but when it comes to spending money, we should be very careful and reorder their priority based on users\u2019 intent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">To outline that intent, the best way is implementing what Avinash spends most of his time doing and it is called<strong> AI (Artificial Intelligence)<\/strong>. Deep learning is a specific machine learning technique which powers the most exciting applications of Artificial Intelligence and as a result we are able not only to solve problems that we are currently facing but also <strong>solve problems that we can\u2019t even imagine being able to solve<\/strong>! And when it comes to advertising we might don\u2019t know who our potential clients are but still we will be able to put an interesting and effective content in front of them, at the right time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">How all these could be translated into actionable information in our online digital world?
